Hi everybody,

Hi Reto,

Thanks for your question and interest in ACES. This forum should be a great resource for you!

I’m seconding your request for the ACES Community to come up with some titles/resources they value!

While we can’t endorse any book or tool, I’ll kick it off by mentioning a couple that have come across my desk and you can see if they’re appropriate for your needs.

Chapters on ACES:
Colour Reproduction in Electronic Imaging Systems: Photography, Television, Cinematography http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/9781119021780.ch32/summary

SMPTE Webcast: ACES 1.0 Theory and PracticeVideos

Listen to the recent Webcast for SMPTE members – generously made public by SMPTE. Then, beginning with the author’s real-world experience, a description of an ACES use-case for theatrical production will be discussed from on-set to post-production and visual effects (VFX) to delivery. Many thanks to Peter Postma and Bob Chorley for their enlightening and thorough technical article “Color Grading with Color Management”. Lots of great information on ACES for the more technically inclined. Available free to SMPTE members and for a small fee to others. http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/7736172/

For a high-level treatment, there are chapters in

10th Edition of https://www.amazon.com/American-Cinematographer-Manual-10TH-Michael/dp/1467568309/ref=pd_cp_14_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=XVCPZMF507554RG4E31A
(paperback also available.)

2nd Edition of https://www.amazon.com/VES-Handbook-Visual-Effects-Procedures/dp/0240825187/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1487202256&sr=1-1&keywords=VFX+Handbook

an expensive option is the technical textbook,
Color Management Textbook

which has some references relative to ACES (and the background color science) but the info can be found elsewhere. (or check the library)

and generally, all of the details are at

There are other sources on the net too, but this is a starting point.
