“The Land of Oblivion”, Carlos Vives’ iconic album turns 25 and releases HD video (restored using ACES!)
Fun read! Colombian production company, Mestiza Films uses ACES to restore a 25 year old video from 35mm.
+ Technical matters
The process was carried out using the ACES (Academy Color Encoding System) color space since the material curve was logarithmic. This allowed us to make a very good transformation to the curves and color spaces used for broadcast on HD television and web.
During the color correction, the material was also cleaned, as over time some shots showed scratches, spots and sometimes fungi that deteriorate the image. In this case, we proceeded through a restoration program to do this digital cleaning frame by frame.
Finally, the process culminated with the masters in UHD-4K (3840 x 2160) and in HD (1920 x 1080) both with SRGB and Rec709 color spaces for web and television respectively, so that the public can enjoy this soundtrack of all the Colombians.
