“It’s a different world now. Everyone’s phone is HDR. Most people’s TVs have HDR, even if they didn’t actively choose it. You don’t have to seek it out. So, it was time to pursue better consistency of SDR and HDR in ACES 2.0.” 

“The two main things that are better [in ACES 2.0] are, better visual and perceptual matches between the SDR and HDR renderings of the transforms, and better behavior for extreme colors at the edge of gamut, or extreme colors that are heavily overexposed.”
